You, Me, and a Spider-Cat

You, Me, and a Spider-Cat

It’s not polished, but it’s a fun impromptu poem I wrote this morning for an upcoming event…

Those who read my stories will know what a Spider-Cat is. 🙂

You, Me, and a Spider-Cat

My dear, wonderful readers,
I’ve written my stories with my ideals
Refusing to yield to market feel-ers
Added the nuances in my mind,
Twists and turns and unexpected hills
All things a money-hungry Publisher
Would derail, shortchange, and kill,
For this writer to write her best
It MUST be on my terms, unfurling
My wings, pushing myself to the
Literary edge, Going where

You, me and a Spider-Cat want to go!

Re: MY FATHER’S MAGIC

I am so pleased to announce that even though I didn’t win the Award for Genre Fiction, the commentary from the Judge is nothing short of thrilling. These long years of hard work, teaching myself to write creatively rather than technically has proven to be a success. I am so grateful to receive such wonderful feedback from a Writer’s Digest Judge.

Please read on…I hope it will encourage you to read Esme’s story, MY FATHER’S MAGIC, the first book in my fantasy suspense series.

5 Stars for The Nightmare Birds !

5 Stars for The Nightmare Birds !

And this is why I interviewed Author Amie Irene Winters…

My Amazon review of The Nightmare Birds –

“A must read for fantasy lovers who love adventure!”

“WOW, the first book in this series was great, but The Nightmare Birds was so much better! LOVED the surprise ending!! Now I can’t wait to read the next book.

Original plot, unusual, captivating, memorable characters and story line. A must read for fantasy lovers. I wish I had time to give a more thorough review. I’m just not doing this book justice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.”

That’s my Amazon review for The Nightmare Birds, the second book in Amie Irene Winters’ fascinating STRANGE LUCK series. Below is a partial recap of my interview with her earlier this month:

“There are three books planned in the Strange Luck series. In Book I, Strange Luck, eighteen-year-old Daisy Darling uncovers a world built using stolen memories.  It is in this world that Daisy discovers that she possesses unexplainable and unique abilities that she uses to battle the dark forces at play.

Book II, The Nightmare Birds, flashes forward to Daisy at twenty-one-years-old and uncovers more of her strange abilities and how they tie in to her heritage. In the process, Daisy uncovers the truth about the mysterious Theater of Secrets – long thought a dark legend by many, but known as a frightening reality to those who truly know its powers.  As Daisy assumes her new role as ringleader, she not only discovers a surprising connection between herself and the previous ringleader, but also the haunting truth behind the theater’s limitless power.

I’m working on Book III, A Darling Secret, right now. It’s expected to be released in winter 2017. You can sign up for my newsletter here to be notified about new book releases and special promos.”

I Found You Again Today

I Found You Again Today

I found you again today
What’s it been, thirty years?
You still look great, same great
Smile, same clear blue eyes,
You haven’t aged at all,
You were with your family,
Just like I left you, lying
There, inside that wooden box,
The big one in the basement,
I was cleaning up a bit, good
Thing to do every thirty
Years or so, has it been that
Long? Seems like just yesterday
When I said goodbye, surrounding
You with mothballs, you were
Wearing your favorite shirt, blue
Like your eyes, your wife so lovely
And perfect…in her dress, and
The twins, what were their names?
No matter, we had fun, all those
Summer days and nights, there
On the floor of my bedroom,
Oh, look at the spot, there on her
Dress, it was red, wasn’t it, and
Now it’s faded rusty pink,
But you, you still have that look
You were so surprised,
Yes, you never thought I’d do it,
You thought you had a good thing
That we were forever, the five
Of us, but I grew older and got
Wise and so, you all went away,
Packed inside this wooden box
Surrounded by mothballs in
The corner of my basement.

Never Settle for Second Best

Never Settle for Second Best

Years ago, at seventeen, I sought an outlet. Something, anything, that would allow me to give voice to my thoughts, a way to “visualize” the pictures and the “movies,” that ran through my head. The medium I chose was what came naturally to me, words.

With words I could paint a picture, with words I could share my thoughts, my ideas and explore the unknown universe within my mind…with words I could stretch and expand my creativity, thus providing the outlet I so badly needed.

…and so, a love affair began, my love affair with words.

Today, I was reminded of why I can never settle for second best when it comes to my own creativity. This movie, this delightful and entertaining movie, Words & Pictures, reminded me of why I started writing. It reminded of that innermost desire to paint with words.

Eighteen years and many more charms later, upon her father’s sudden and mysterious death, Esme discovers a key within his desk; the key to an old family home she doesn’t remember. There, she meets strangers who claim to have known her as a child and her father’s secrets, so well guarded by a young woman with a blocked memory, begin to unravel.

Reviews:

C. Michael Bennis, Author, Signs of Destiny and Ralph’s Place, A Magical Experience

I couldn’t put down this narrative of mystery and intrigue that clings to you like stepping into a spider web in a dark and haunted house. …This is a great story with many plot layers that you will enjoy from this very creative and imaginative author.

Carol Marrs Phipps, Author, The Heart of the Staff Series and WHAM!

What a treat! My Father’s Magic is the first fantasy novel I have read by Author Ingrid Foster, but rest assured, it won’t be the last. Flawless writing, intriguing storyline and realistic characters that are easy to love, or hate, in some instances, are just a few of the reasons I adored this tale.

This book grabbed my attention from the start, held it in thrall to the very last page and then left me to anxiously anticipate the release of the next book in this addictive series. I can only say, “Ms Foster, please write quickly!”

PS Winn, Author, Phases, A Gradual Decline and the Parallel Adventure Series

This is a really great read, it’s like a female Harry Potter for adults. Readers meet Esme Bohlin Hermanus when her father dies. Esme’s mother Elizabeth has been placed in an insane asylum and has been there since Esme was a child. Not knowing much about her mother, Esme goes to a house of her father’s to grieve. What she finds there is going to take readers on a magical fantasy adventure of good, evil and family ties that will have you sitting on the edge of your seats. The author does a wonderful job linking the past to the present and to ramifications for the future. I found myself lost in the story and I think readers are going to love this tale.

A HOME FOR ROSE – A Dark Desert Tale

A HOME FOR ROSE – A Dark Desert Tale

One of the things that attracted us to a home in the desert, was the lack of grass to mow. But, likewise, we also quickly noted that with no grass or ground cover, everything living or buried within the sandy earth was hard to hide.

So, as we began our gardening adventures, we found things that the desert had long ago claimed. In my office, I have a lion and a small dragon. Both are made of brass and both were found buried in the crusted dirt around our home.

But when my husband presented me with the dragon, it occurred to me, “What if he found something that was actually best left buried?” What if the object he unearthed only appeared to be treasure, but was actually so much worse?

And so, in the tradition of creepy stories everywhere, I wrote my second dark desert tale, “A HOME FOR ROSE.”
